Because sometimes what happens is you have to get from 18th Street and Sixth Ave over to 23rd Street and Second Avenue and there just really isn't a quick way to do that. There just isn't.
But maybe...if there were some bicycles sitting around that you were allowed to borrow for an hour, then you could just ride over to Second Avenue lickety-split and not have to wait 15 minutes for a bus that's going to take 20 minutes to go four blocks.
Doot doot doot do do do dooo doooo dooooooo!!!
BIKE SHARE!
This has been coming for a while. I've seen it in DC and I've read about it in places like Denver. Tim mentioned it's in London; Jennifer knows about Paris and Montreal. And now with the help of our mayor...say what you will, he is a bike advocate and there are an alarming number of people who are against anything having to do with cycling (Prospect Park bike lane bruhaha that's been going on for months and months?)...NYC is getting a bike share program. Mayor B has selected the vendor and next year we should be ready to roll.
Transportation Alternatives has a really good FAQ explaining how everything will work.
Let's roll.
